‘Batgirl’ And ‘Zatanna’ Films Are Apparently Still In The Works

Remember when putting Joss Whedon in charge of a Batgirl movie seemed like a really good idea? Yeah, a lot has changed in a few years. Whedon delivered one of the biggest superhero flops in Justice League, then allegations about his abusive treatment of actors began to surface and he was removed from the film. Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson was brought on to revive the project, but Batgirl has sat languishing ever since.

Well, Batgirl is not dead. The film appeared as part of Warner Bros.’ upcoming DC slate during today’s AT&T’s Analyst & Investor Day 2021. While it’s just a grid of projects, it at least means the movie is still in development.

Also appearing on the grid is the Zatanna film that has been rumored about since 2018.

I don’t believe these projects would be revealed in this way if news on them was too far off. It’s possible we’re hearing something soon.

Toni Collette To Take The Director’s Chair for ‘Writers And Lovers’

Toni Collette, who’s been consistently working in Hollywood for over 30 years and blew up in the public conscience with her performance in Hereditary, is stepping behind the camera for the upcoming book adaptation Writers and Lovers. The novel by Lily King is about an aspiring novelist who, during a particularly difficult time in her life, falls for two men who are polar opposites of each other. King landed on the New York Times bestseller list with the effort and was featured on a ‘Today Show’ book group.

Collette isn’t just directing though, that would be too easy for a mega-talent like her, nope she’s also producing the flick alongside screenwriter Susannah Grant. Collette chose Writers and Lovers for her directorial debut because she said the story was “an Empowering story that speaks to me as a woman” and “Inspired her on so many levels”

We’ll keep you updated as this develops, make sure to check here for all of the latest on Toni Collette

‘Falcon And The Winter Soldier’ Clips: Sam And Bucky Argue Over ‘The Hobbit’

I don’t envy the people having to follow behind WandaVision, one of the most popular and creatively ambitious projects Marvel Studios has ever done. And then right on its heels is Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which looks…well, like it’s just there to provide the comforting superhero action fans were used to be they started enjoying the sitcom adventures of a chaos witch and her synthezoid lover.

If there’s something working in Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s favor its stars Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, who as Sam “Falcon” Wilson and Bucky “Winter Soldier” Barnes have shown they have the buddy comedy act down pat. This series finds the sparring duo taking on the returned evil of Baron Zemo (Daniel Bruhl), facing the extreme patriotism of USAgent (Wyatt Russell), and facing the legacy of Captain America. Will we know who the right guy to carry the shield is by the finale?

In the two new clips that have been released, Sam and Bucky squabble like buddies do. The second clip is funny because not only does Sam namecheck “Redwing”, who in the comics is his loyal bird that he shares a telepathic link to. He also mentions the “Big 3″, which are “androids, aliens, and wizards”, the only kind of people they seem to run into.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier hits Disney+ beginning March 19th.

‘Here Are The Young Men’ Trailer: Anya Taylor-Joy & Dean-Charles Chapman Share One Last Summer Of Freedom

Following her Golden Globe win for The Queen’s Gambit, arguably the most popular series of the last year, anything Anya Taylor-Joy is in has heightened attention on it. Her presence can only boost the prospects of the Irish coming-of-age drama Here are the Young Men, which looks to be a familiar film about the transition into adulthood.

Taylor-Joy is surrounded by quite the cast of rising stars, including Dean-Charles Chapman who you might remember from 1917, Finn Cole from the Animal Kingdom television series, and Sing Street‘s Ferdia Walsh-Peelo. Game of Thrones‘ Conleth Hill and Vikings‘ Travis Fimmel play the well-established adults.

Here’s the synopsis: HERE ARE THE YOUNG MEN, based on the acclaimed novel by Rob Doyle, catalogs the last hurrah of three high school graduates intent on celebrating their newfound freedom with an epic, debaucherous bender. However, when a horrible accident sends them spiraling, the trio must grapple with the most daunting challenge of their lives: facing their own inner demons.

Behind the camera is actor-turned-director Eoin Macken, who has helmed such films as Dreaming for You and Cold.

Here are the Young Men opens on April 27th.

‘Every Breath You Take’ Trailer: Casey Affleck, Michelle Monaghan, & Sam Claflin Star In A ‘Cape Fear’-esque Thriller

In the works for nearly a decade, the psychological thriller Every Breath You Take is finally set for a theatrical and PVOD release this month courtesy of Vertical Entertainment. The film boasts a cast led by Casey Affleck, Michelle Monaghan, Sam Claflin, Veronica Ferres, and India Eisley, with Terminal director Vaughn Stein behind the camera.

Penned by David Murray, the film stars Affleck as a psychologist whose career is throw into turmoil when a patient commits suicide. Claflin plays the patient’s brother, who tears apart the doctor’s personal life when he’s invited into the family home to meet his wife and daughter.

Long described as being in the vein of Cape Fear, the film was previously eyed by directors Rob Reiner and Christine Jeffs (Sunshine Cleaning). Harrison Ford and Zac Efron were also attached to star at one point, so the project has undergone some significant changes over the years. Affleck and Monaghan find themselves reunited after starring in Gone Baby Gone together back in 2007.

Every Breath You Take will open in theaters and premium VOD on April 2nd.

Every Breath You Take is a searing psychological thriller about a psychiatrist (Casey Affleck), whose career is thrown into jeopardy when his patient takes her own life. When he invites his patient’s surviving brother (Sam Claflin) into his home to meet his wife (Michelle Monaghan) and daughter, his family life is suddenly torn apart.

‘Bird Box’ Franchise Grows With Spanish-Language Spinoff At Netflix

When Bird Box dropped on Netflix in 2018, it was a gigantic hit that helped establish the streamer as a home for blockbuster entertainment. While we know a sequel is in the works, the Sandra Bullock thriller will also see its universe expanded in a different way and in a different language.

Deadline reports that a Spanish-language Bird Box spinoff is in the works from original producers Dylan Clark and Chris Morgan. Writing the script and directing will be Alex and David Pastor, best known for Netflix thriller The Occupant and HBO Max series The Head. Susanne Bier, who directed the first movie, is on board as a exec-producer.

While plot details are unclear, we know it’ll be set in the same universe as Bullock’s film, so expect people to still be living in fear from creatures that cause people who look upon them to commit suicide.  The previous film had viewers everywhere blindfolding their eyes shut just like Bullock’s character, a mom trying to escort her children to safety. If successful, this could lead to multiple spinoffs in different languages.

Production on the new Bird Box film begins later this year in Spain. Can’t wait to see if any recognizable stars get involved.

There’s No Sanctuary In The Trailer For ‘Night of the Sicario’

Sicario

Who doesn’t love a good cartel action movie? It’s really the new western in a lot of ways, brazen gunfights, usually an anti-hero or two. They’re just a ton of blowing up fun. Night of the Sicario looks like it’s going to combine the standard DEA vs Cartel dynamic and a home invasion flick. When Agent Cole Bennet (Costas Mandalore) has his caravan attacked, he and the witnesses he is protecting have to take refuge in the home of a local woman, Taylor Ward (Natasha Henstridge). It isn’t long before the cartel soldiers find out where they are and storm the home to collect the information they need. The trailer promises plenty of gunshots, explosions and tense moments with, what appears to be, a few twists hinted at in a few frames.

Check out the trailer below and look for Night of the Sicario on Digital and OnDemand April 20th, 2021

Official Synopsis:

Taylor is forced to hide the young daughter of a Colombian woman in witness protection who will be testifying against a powerful drug cartel in Federal Court, as ruthless sicarios aim to hunt them down.

‘Black Panther II’: Ryan Coogler Says Filming Sequel Is “Hardest Thing” Without Chadwick Boseman

Coogler Boseman

What will Black Panther II be without star Chadwick Boseman? That question has been hanging over the Marvel sequel since the actor’s unfortunate death. The wise decision was made not to recast the T’Challa role with another actor, which leaves only a few options with how to write him off.

The burden of deciding on that belongs with director Ryan Coogler, and he talked with Jemele Hill about the challenges of moving forward without Boseman. Like many within the Marvel family, Coogler is struggling with the grief of losing someone who was more than just an actor, but a friend…

“You know, I’m currently going through it. One thing that I’ve learned in my short or long time on this Earth, however, you want to look at it, it’s difficult to have perspective on something while you’re going through it. This is one of the more profound things that I’ve ever gone through in my life, having to be a part of keeping this project going without this particular person. Who was like the glue that held it together.”

“That said, you have a personal life, you have a professional life, you got a private life. When you work in something that you love, those things blend, they come together right?Your life kind of becomes your work for the better part of it. So, I’m trying to find a work-life balance, so I’m working on building two things that can stand on their own. I’m not there yet. But, this is without question, the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in my professional life.”

There are some tough decisions that need to be made and the direction Coogler takes will go a long way in how audiences feel about the film.

Jaz Sinclair Graduates From ‘Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina’ To ‘The Boys’ College Spinoff

Jaz Sinclair has gradulated from the Baxter High of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, to the superhero university of The Boys‘ upcoming spinoff series. Deadline reports Sinclair one of two new castmembers joining the upcoming series pilot, which is nearing a greenlight from Amazon Studios. It was back in September we learned it was being fast-tracked to take advantage of The Boys‘ hit second season.

Also joining the cast with Sinclair is Lizzie Broadway, known for her roles on The Rookie and Here and Now. Sinclair will play a superhero student named Marie, while Broadway’s character is Emma.

The series hails from writer/exec-producer Craig Rosenberg and is set at a dog-eat-dog college for superheroes run by the shady Vought International.  Basically, imagine all of the R-rated, over-the-top sex and violence of The Boys, but throw in hormonal young adults with no moral boundaries into the mix.

There were a lot of great young actors on Sabrina that I can’t wait to see more from, with Sinclair among the best. For those of us who loved her as the loyal, giving, all-seeing Rosalind it’s going to take some time getting used to her doing in the toxic, backstabbing, immoral universe of The Boys.

Rolling that dough has given her one Hell of a strong arm, one she puts to use in the Women’s Arm Wrestling Championship, encouraged by her trucker pal.

Also in the cast are Betsy Sodaro, Dot-Marie Jones, Eugene Cordero, Ron Funches, Dawn Luebbe, and Kate Flannery.

Golden Arm has been playing festivals in Milwaukee and Austin, but will finally be released digitally and in theaters on April 30th.
