‘Bird Box’ Franchise Grows With Spanish-Language Spinoff At Netflix

When Bird Box dropped on Netflix in 2018, it was a gigantic hit that helped establish the streamer as a home for blockbuster entertainment. While we know a sequel is in the works, the Sandra Bullock thriller will also see its universe expanded in a different way and in a different language.

Deadline reports that a Spanish-language Bird Box spinoff is in the works from original producers Dylan Clark and Chris Morgan. Writing the script and directing will be Alex and David Pastor, best known for Netflix thriller The Occupant and HBO Max series The Head. Susanne Bier, who directed the first movie, is on board as a exec-producer.

While plot details are unclear, we know it’ll be set in the same universe as Bullock’s film, so expect people to still be living in fear from creatures that cause people who look upon them to commit suicide.  The previous film had viewers everywhere blindfolding their eyes shut just like Bullock’s character, a mom trying to escort her children to safety. If successful, this could lead to multiple spinoffs in different languages.

Production on the new Bird Box film begins later this year in Spain. Can’t wait to see if any recognizable stars get involved.
