James Bond Producer Says New 007 Won’t Even Be Discussed Until Next Year

Daniel Craig has a few words to say about James Bond.

Speculation as to who will replace Daniel Craig as James Bond has been going on so long, one might think a decision could be made pretty quickly. Certainly, fans of 007 want it to be. However, Bond producers are in no such rush.

Bond caretaker and producer Barbara Broccoli told BBC 4 Radio (via Deadline) that actual discussions about a new James Bond won’t begin until next year…

“We want Daniel to have his time of celebration. Next year we’ll start thinking about the future.”

And that makes sense. Craig has been Bond for fifteen years. That’s a long time to play any single role. He deserves his moment in the sun, and to give others time to think about what Craig has meant to the franchise, as much as it has meant to him…

“He knew it would change his life, which it obviously has,” Broccoli added. “He enabled us to explore the emotional life of Bond, to go deeply into the personal, complexity of the character.”

That said, we’ve all got our wish lists for the next Bond, right? Personally, my top two are Matthias Schoenaerts (You KNEW I’d pick him!) and Henry Cavill. I’d be happy with either one. And since we know it will definitely be a dude, they’ve at least got a shot.

No Time to Die opens in theaters on October 8th.

First ‘Don’t Look Up’ Clip: Leonardo DiCaprio And Jennifer Lawrence Try To Warn President Meryl Streep About A Global Disaster

Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio in DON'T LOOK UP

If you just read the simple synopsis, it may not seem to be the case that Adam McKay is doing anything political with his new film, Don’t Look Up, I don’t think that’s the case. The star-studded film, which is led by Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio but features a Murderer’s Row of A-listers, follows a pair of scientists trying to warn the world about a comet that will destroy the planet. Of course, nobody believes them and the entire issue turns into a political football, sortof like what we’re going through with the pandemic right now.

Over the weekend, Netflix debuted the first clip from Don’t Look Up, which features the two leads along with Rob Morgan, Jonah Hill, and Meryl Streep as the POTUS who would rather “assess” the situation than do anything about it.

Also in the cast are Cate Blanchett, Tyler Perry, Timothée Chalamet, Kid Cudi, Ariana Grande, Matthew Perry, Gina Gershon, Michael Chiklis, and Chris Evans. So yeah, it’s got a few folks you might’ve heard of.

Don’t Look Up opens in theaters on December 10th, followed by Netflix on December 24th.

Ethan Hawke Is Terrifying In First Poster For Scott Derrickson’s ‘The Black Phone’

That’s Ethan Hawke.

No, I’m serious. That’s the same guy from Before Sunrise and First Reformed, underneath that terrifying white paint and mask. The image is from the first poster for The Black Phone, which recently made its debut at Fantastic Fest.

The Black Phone is also a reunion between Hawke and Sinister director Scott Derrickson. This is Derrickson’s first film since directing Doctor Strange in 2016, then backing out of its sequel.

Based on a short story by Joe Hill, The Black Phone is set in 1970s Colorado and stars Hawke as a kidnapper and serial killer with his sights set on Finney Shaw (Mason Thames) as his sixth victim. While Finny is trapped inside of a soundproof basement, he discovers a disconnected phone that transmits the voices of the killer’s previous victims, who try to help him escape. The film also stars Jeremy Davies, James Ransone, and Madeleine McGraw.

Universal plans to release The Black Phone in theaters on January 28th 2022.

Box Office: ‘Shang-Chi’ Remains On Top Another Week As ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ Opens To Weak $7.5M

  1. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings– $12.8M/$196.5M

Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings continued its dominance for another week, earning $12.8M and an easy win over Dear Evan Hansen. As predicted, Marvel’s first exclusively theatrical effort in two years also became the top-grossing domestic release of the year with $196.5M.

2. Dear Evan Hansen (review)- $7.5M

The tears were flowing for Dear Evan Hansen in its opening weekend. Opening at just $7.5M is not a good look for Universal’s anticipated adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, which returns star Ben Platt to the role he helped make famous. Reviews weren’t great, and I think there isn’t a mood for musicals at the moment if we take In the Heights and Cats into the equation. Sorta makes me wonder what the future holds for West Side Story.

3. Free Guy– $4.1M/$114.1M

4. Candyman– $2.5M/$56.8M

5. Cry Macho– $2.1M/$8.4M

6. Jungle Cruise– $1.7M/$114.9M

7. Malignant– $1.4M/$12.3M

8. Copshop– $1.3M/$4.5M

9. PAW Patrol– $1.1M/$38.7M

10. Love Story– $971K

John Cena Joins Political Thriller ‘The Independent’ With Jodie Turner-Smith, Brian Cox, & Kathy Bates

naWe’re about to see John Cena finally get serious on the big screen. After a banner year that saw him in F9The Suicide Squad, and Vacation Friends, Cena has signed up to star in political thriller The Independent, joined by Jodie Turner-Smith, Brian Cox, and Oscar winner Kathy Bates.

According to Deadline, the film follows “the final weeks of the most consequential presidential election in history,” with Turner-Smith as an idealistic young journalist teamed with her idol (Cox) to investigate  “a conspiracy that places the fate of the election, and the country, in their hands.”

Cena and Bates will both play Presidential candidates.

The film will be directed by Amy Rice, known for political doc By the People: The Election of Barack Obama. Something tells me this story will have more in common with the 2016 Presidential election than anything Obama was involved with.

Cena is coming off a brief return to the WWE squared circle. He’s also agreed to return for a sequel to Vacation Friends which proved to be a huge hit for Hulu last summer. He will also don the bucket helmet of Peacemaker for an HBO Max spinoff from The Suicide Squad.

Randall Park Returns For ‘Aquaman 2’, Joined By Three New Additions

While director James Wan was busy for a while with his return to horror in Malignant, and Jason Momoa has been tackling a ton of projects including Dune, both are back and ready for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. According to THR, the anticipated DC Comics sequel is adding a handful of new faces in key roles, while confirming one fan-favorite’s return.

Randall Park, who fans already love for his Jimmy Woo role in Marvel’s WandaVision, is also coming back as Dr. Stephen Shin in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The marine biologist had a checkered role in the life of Aquaman in the first movie, so I’m curious to see where his story leads next.

Joining Park are Jani Zhao as an original character named Stingray, trans actor Indya Moore as DC Comics villain Karshon who is a telepathic shark , and Vincent Regan who replaces Graham McTavish as the ancient Atlantis ruler, Atlan. Game of Thrones‘ Pilou Asbaek also has a role which is likely to be of a baddie because that’s what he’s good at.

Momoa’s Arthur Curry will be sporting a cool new stealth suit, sure to be admired by returning co-stars Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Orm, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Dolph Lundren as King Nereus, and Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom opens December 16th 2022

‘The Witcher’ Season 2 Clips, Trailer, New Shows Announced, And Season 3 Confirmed

The world of The Witcher is growing fast, and who can blame Netflix for doing it? The numbers show that people love watching Henry Cavill slay monsters, and this weekend’s TUDUM event gave fans a lot to look forward to. Not only is there a new trailer for season 2, but clips offering some new footage, as well.

Oh yeah, and season 3? It’s officially happening.

Cavill returns as Geralt of Rivia, who at the end of season 1 finally hooked up with Princess Ciri (Freya Allen), as the two are connected to one another by destiny. That opens up a whole new avenue of exploration for the upcoming batch of episodes. Anya Chalotra and the rest of the regular cast are returning, as well.

The franchise is basically being overseen by showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, who has already been involved with an animated prequel film, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. A second animated movie is on the way, along with a series geared towards kids. A live-action prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin, starring Michelle Yeoh and Sophia Brown is also in the works. Lots of Witcher to go around!

‘The Sandman’ First Look: The Endless Finally Come To Netflix In 2022

Longtime devotees of Neil Gaiman have seen his profile rise significantly of late. With the need for so much content out there, adaptations have been frequent including Good OmensAmerican GodsCoraline, and now you can add The Sandman to the list. After what seems like an Endless wait (pun intended), with prior feature adaptation attempts led by Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Huh??), Roger Avary, and others, it’s Netflix that finally made it happen as a series.

Tom Sturridge leads the way as Morpheus, ruler of Dreams and the one who will restore order to the surreal realm known as The Dreaming. Good luck, because he’ll also be contending with Lucifer, played by Game of Thrones and Star Wars actress Gwendoline Christie.

The series is developed by Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman), working alongside David Goyer (Man of Steel) and Gaiman who is taking a more active role than he usually does with adaptations of his work.

Also in the cast are Vivienne Acheampong, Boyd Holbrook because he’s in every Netflix project, Charles Dance, Asim Chaudhry, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Jenna Coleman, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death.

New Look At ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 Has Some Ghostbusting Goin’ On

The third season of Netflix’s hit Stranger Things debuted more than two years ago on July 4th. That’s an incredibly long wait to find out the fate of Hopper and other cliffhangers the series left on. I’d like to tell you the wait is nearly over, but the truth is, even after this weekend’s TUDUM fan event and a new teaser, we only know that season four will arrive in 2022.

In the latest footage, titled “Creel House”, things get very strange for a family as they enter their new home in Hawkins, IN. But after all of the Poltergeist-y shit is over, we see the familiar band of kiddos investigating the place in true Ghostbusters fashion. We already know this season will lean heavily into Cold War era themes, but it looks like there will more paranormal sleuthing going on, too.

It’s been more than a year of teasers but this is the most substantial, by far. No matter when Stranger Things arrives it promises to continue as Netflix’s most popular series and probably will be until the Duffer Bros. decide to wrap it up.

‘Army Of Thieves’ Trailer: Dieter Returns For A Pre-‘Army Of The Dead’ Heist

Netflix couldn’t very well hold their TUDUM fan event without something from fan-favorite director, Zack Snyder. While he’s not specifically directing Army of Thieves, the heist film is a prequel to his hit zombie flick Army of the Dead, which has grown into a full-fledged franchise with multiple projects on the way.

Army of Thieves is directed by Matthias Schweighöfer, who also returns to play the popular safe cracker, Dieter. The film takes place before his heroic sacrifice (I remain convinced he ain’t dead) when Dieter was just a bank teller, roped into a dangerous crime alongside some of the world’s most wanted criminals.

Schweighöfer is joined by F9‘s Nathalie Emmanuel, Ruby O. Fee, Stuart Martin, Guz Khan, Peter Simonischek, and Jonathan Cohen. Shay Hatten and Zack Snyder came up with the story, so expect it to fit nicely into the Army of the Dead universe.

Netflix will release Army of Thieves on October 29th.
