‘Spring Blossom’ Trailer: Suzanne Lindon’s Acclaimed Directorial Debut Arrives Later This Month

What were you doing at 15-years-old? While many of us were failing to be cool at one thing or another, Suzanne Lindon was writing a feature-length screenplay. At the age of 19 she would go on to direct that film, Spring Blossom, which had audiences raving at TIFF last year. In other words, she’s better than all of us. At least at this one thing. And did I mention she also has the lead role? Pretty amazing, if you ask me.

Spring Blossom, which opens in NYC and LA on May 21st, is a coming-of-age story about a 16-year-old girl who overcomes her boredom by befriending an older man, which leads to its own set of problems.  The cast also includes BPM actor Arnaud Valois.

Suzanne (Suzanne Lindon) is sixteen. She is bored with people her own age. From the outside, everything appears lovely in her charmed world, but the everyday monotony of school and her relationships with friends and family feels completely uninspired. Every day on her way to high school, she passes a theater. There, she meets a 35-year-old actor named Raphaël (Arnaud Valois, BPM (Beats Per Minute )). Despite their age difference they find in each other an answer to their ennui and develop a strong connection. Immersed in the world of grown-ups and adult choices, Suzanne begins questioning the pitfalls of blossoming too quickly and missing out on life – the life of a 16-year-old, which she had struggled so much to enjoy in the same way as her peers.

‘Queen Bees’ Trailer: Ellen Burstyn Takes On Mean Seniors At A Retirement Home

A mean girl in high school might grow up to be a mean girl at the senior citizens home. In the upcoming comedy Queen Bees, Ellen Burstyn plays a fiercely independent woman who temporarily moves into a senior living community, only to face a clique of “mean girls with medical alert bracelets” who really should be old enough to know better. But then, what fun would that be?

Burstyn is joined by James Caan (in an extremely rare role), Ann-Margret, Jane Curtin,
Christopher Lloyd, Loretta Devine, Elizabeth Mitchell and French Stewart. My mom absolutely LOVES this cast, let me tell you.  The film is directed by Michael Lembeck, who has a handful of big hits to his credit including The Santa Clause 2, Tooth Fairy, and Connie & Carla. Okay, definitely not that last one.

Queen Bees opens in theaters and VOD on June 11th.

While her house undergoes repairs, fiercely independent senior Helen (Academy Award® winner-Ellen Burstyn) moves into a nearby retirement community ― just temporarily. Once behind the doors of Pine Grove Senior Community, she encounters lusty widows, cutthroat bridge tournaments and a hotbed of bullying “mean girls” the likes of which she hasn’t encountered since high school, all of which leaves her yearning for the solitude of home. But somewhere between flower arranging and water aerobics Helen discovers that it’s never too late to make new friends and perhaps even find a new love.

New ‘Black Widow’ Character Posters Showcase Taskmaster, The Agent, Red Guardian, & More

Processed with MOLDIV

The dry spell is almost over, True Believers. Black Widow arrives this July in both theaters and Disney+, making this the first Marvel Studios film we’ve had on the big screen since July 2019!!! Ahead of the anticipated released, Marvel has dropped a series of character posters featuring Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff, perhaps for the final time, along with the other key players.

My major interest in Black Widow continues to be in the supporting cast since some of them may have an important role in the MCU. Chief among them is Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Natasha’s “sister” who is also trained as a spy in Russia’s Red Room. She’s expected to return in the upcoming Hawkeye series, which should make for an interesting encounter with Clint Barton. We also see Rachel Weisz as Melina, who is wearing the exact same outfit as Natasha, which gives me the impression she is her direct predecessor as Black Widow. David Harbour still looks awesome to me as Red Guardian, the combat-mimicking villain Taskmater, and O-T Fagbenle as Rick Mason aka The Agent. I’m hoping he gets a long run in the MCU, as well. Mason’s a cool, underseen character.

Directed by Cate Shortland, Black Widow opens on July 9th.

First Look At Tom Cruise’s Latest Deadly Stunt For ‘Mission: Impossible 7’

Remember how we used to marvel at the crazy stunts Jackie Chan would pull off and the injuries he endured to entertain us? Well, Tom Cruise has met and surpassed Chan with each new Mission: Impossible movie. Seemingly looking to outdo himself every couple of years to see how close to death he can get, Cruise is really tempting fate with Mission: Impossible 7, which sees his most dangerous stunt yet.

Cruise detailed a deadly stunt in the film that sees him riding a motorcycle.  Okay, so what’s so crazy about that? Well, he rides it over a cliff. And as we all know at this point, Cruise does his own stunts, which must make his insurers go absolutely fucking nuts. He describes it in detail to Empire

“If the wind was too strong, it would blow me off the ramp,” Cruise said. “The helicopter [filming the stunt] was a problem because I didn’t want to be hammering down that ramp at top speed and get hit by a stone. Or if I departed in a weird way, we didn’t know what was going to happen with the bike. I had about six seconds once I departed the ramp to pull the chute and I don’t want to get tangled in the bike. If I do, that’s not going to end well.”

I imagine the downdraft from the chopper didn’t help, either. All of this sounds insane, and I can’t wait to see how Christopher McQuarrie films it and how everything fits into the movie.

Mission: Impossible 7 hits theaters on May 27th 2022, followed by a Paramount+ release in July.

‘Love Death + Robots’ NSFW Season 2 Trailer Brings Futuristic Mayhem And Kink To Netflix

Anthologies have never really been my bag, but I know a lot of people who swear up and down that I’ll love Love Death + Robots. The animated series by Netflix and Tim Miller (Deadpool) is known for the wild combo of mayhem, sex, and violence it brings to the table, and what do you think they did for season two? Up the ante, of course.

A red band trailer for the upcoming 8-episode season looks pretty intense, featuring many different art styles and moods, plus a healthy dose of futuristic kink. Harlan Ellison, J.G. Ballard, and Joe Lansdale developed some of the stories, as well, which is reason enough to want to check this out.

Love Death + Robots season two hits Netflix on May 14th, so just a few days away.

First Look At Leonardo DiCaprio And Lily Gladstone In Martin Scorsese’s ‘Killers Of The Flower Moon’

Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese are pretty much a dream team, and every time they get together on a project it’s a big deal. As Scorsese has made the turn to streaming and away from the big screen, that hasn’t diminished in the least. Apple paid big money for the rights to the long-developing Killers of the Flower Moon, and today Vanity Fair has released our first look at DiCaprio alongside co-star Lily Gladstone.

The image shows DiCaprio in the role of Ernest Burkhart, a real-life cattleman and nephew to William Hale (Robert De Niro), both central figures in the 1920s Oklahoma investigation into a series of murders against the oil-rich Osage Nation. Gladstone plays Mollie Burkhart, and judging by this image she looks to be his wife.

Also in the cast are Jesse Plemons, Michael Abbott Jr., Pat Healy, Scott Shepherd, Tatanka Means, Tattoo Cardinal, Jason Isbell, and Sturgill Simpson. Killers of the Flower Moon is still shooting so we may not see it until 2022.

SYNOPSIS: Hailing from Apple Studios and directed and produced by multi-award-winner Martin Scorsese, “Killers of the Flower Moon” is based on David Grann’s highly praised best-seller. Set in 1920s Oklahoma, “Killers of the Flower Moon” depicts the serial murder of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation, a string of brutal crimes that came to be known as the Reign of Terror.

The ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ Trailer is Here!

Carnage

When Venom premiered there was very little thought that it would be the hit it ended up being. A non-MCU Marvel movie that was not getting the best reviews, but lo and behold almost a billion dollars later we sit with the trailer for Venom 2. In case anyone forgot (and how could you forget that horrible red wig) Venom concluded with a post-credits scene featuring Cletus Kasady in an obvious hint at the possible sequel. Of course, fans knew right away what his inclusion meant. In the comics Kasady was a serial killer who is eventually infected by his own symbiote, a red version of Venom called Carnage. As you can imagine, Carnage doesn’t have that whole “moral dilemma when eating humans” that is enjoyed by Venom and Eddie Brock. I could go on, but you should really do yourself a service and check out the arc Maximum Carnage.

We finally have a look at this anxiously anticipated sequel and I am ALL in. I was never a Venom fanboy, but I’ll freely admit that Tom Hardy’s take on the character won me over in a big way. Yeah, he was always visually enticing, but that buddy cop type dynamic on display, coupled with the outright ridiculous hilarity that Hardy dove head first into made a forgettable action movie into something I watched multiple times. Thankfully it looks like the filmmakers are aware of that draw and have leaned heavily into the Brock/Venom everyday dynamic as well as the primary conflict between Brock/Venom and Kasady/Carnage. We get a really good look at everyday life with Eddie Brock so we know that the comedy is in tact. Then a nice look at the Kasady story and possibly MOST importantly, confirmation that they ditched that insanely bad red wig.

Check it out below and let us know what you think in the comments!

‘Fatherhood’ Trailer: Kevin Hart Gets A Little More Serious In Netflix’s Parenting Drama

Kevin Hart is getting a little more serious in his upcoming Netflix drama, Fatherhood. But as you can see from the debuting trailer, not TOO serious. I mean, can Kevin Hart ever not be a little bit funny?

Directed by Paul Weitz (About a Boy) who co-wrote with Dana Stevens, the film finds Hart as a widower left to shoulder the responsibility of parenting all by himself. Matthew Logelin’s memoir serves as the basis for the story. Hard to believe, but way back in 2015 this was meant to be a starring vehicle for Channing Tatum.

Also starring Alfre Woodard, Lil Rel Howery, DeWanda Wise, Frankie R. Faison, Anthony Carrigan and Paul Reiser, Melody Hurd, and Deborah Ayorinde, Fatherhood hits Netflix on June 18th!

Box Office: Jason Statham And Guy Ritchie’s ‘Wrath Of Man’ Tops With $8M Debut

  1. Wrath of Man (review)- $8.1M

Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie got the summer started off right as Wrath of Man opened with a surprisingly healthy $8.1M opening weekend. Of course, that’s low by typical summer standards, but it’s pretty cool to see a Statham film debut at about the same numbers as pre-pandemic. While Ritchie has made some big numbers, and recently, with The Gentlemen, for Statham his non-franchise projects don’t draw big box office. Audiences really enjoyed Wrath of Man‘s knotty tale of revenge, giving it an “A” Cinemascore. This has to bode well for Ritchie and Statham’s next collab, the spy thriller Five Eyes which is shooting now.

2. Demon Slayer– $3M/$39.6M

3. Mortal Kombat– $2.3M/$37.8M

4. Godzilla vs. Kong– $1.9M/$92.9M

5. Raya and the Last Dragon– $1.8M/$43.8M

6. Separation– $1M/$3.3M

7. Here Today (review)- $900K

Billy Crystal’s first directorial effort in twenty years, the mismatch comedy Here Today opened with $900K in its only weekend of theatrical release before moving to digital. Joined by Tiffany Haddish, the film centers on a veteran comedy writer who becomes unlikely friends with a high-energy street singer, despite their many differences. It’s been a long time coming for Crystal to be back on the big screen, and he couldn’t hold in his excitement in a tweet marking the occasion…

8. Nobody– $760K/$24.6M

9. The Unholy– $730K/$14.1M

10. Tom & Jerry– $426K/$44.7M
