In my review of The Adam Project, I not only praised the sci-fi adventure flick but hoped we’d see more of Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy working together, as they also did on Free Guy. Well, I had no idea it would happen so soon, or on a project like Deadpool 3. But that’s what is about to happen according to THR, and while this is sort of sudden, it can’t be that much of a surprise.
Levy has been discussed as a potential director for Deadpool 3 for months, given the success he’s had with Reynolds already. The sequel has been out there in neutral ever since Disney acquired Fox, but it was always believed it would happen eventually. Unlike the rest of the X-Men franchise, Deadpool will continue on as normal without being rebooted, which make for some interesting integration into the MCU.
Four years have passed since Deadpool 2, a film that introduced a number of characters, including Zazie Beetz as Domino and Josh Brolin as Cable. There have been rumors we could see Deadpool and some of his pals turn up in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. If that truly is Patrick Stewart voicing Charles Xavier in the recent trailer (which I still sort of doubt), then it adds credibility to those rumors.
Scripting Deadpool 3 will be the original duo of Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Interestingly, they had been replaced by Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin (Bob’s Burgers) last year, but the current report puts it back in Reese and Wernick’s hands. I think it’s a good move. They know the character best, and if you’re going to bring him into a new space, the more experience the better. If the plan is to keep it at an R-rated level, they’re the duo to run with for sure.
Of course, Reynolds was out there on Twitter having some fun with the news. Should we expect anything less?
The third film in my Shawn Levy trilogy will be a tad more stabby. pic.twitter.com/ofBrFyaRsv
