Whether you’re sick and tired of the Ocean’s franchise or not, it’s tough to deny the talent on the prequel film that’s happening with Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper. Cooper will also direct the latest chapter in the heist comedies, and now we’re learning from Deadline that Best Actor nominee Wagner Moura has joined the cast.
Moura is fresh off the accolades for The Secret Agent, a truly phenomenal performance that has, thankfully, led to even bigger roles. Speculation is that he will play the villain, a role that Benicio Del Toro was circling previously.
Cooper and Robbie will produce the film, with Cooper directing, starring, and also rewriting the screenplay. Carrie Solomon wrote the earlier draft.
It’s expected that the film will leave the confines of Las Vegas and head to Europe for a 1960s caper involving the thieving parents of Danny and Debbie Ocean, younger versions of the characters played by George Clooney and Sandra Bullock. Here’s how Robbie described it at CinemaCon…
“Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows: his parents. You’ll see them in all their prime in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.”
Moura was recently at Tribeca for the premiere of The Last Day, in which he stars opposite Alicia Vikander. In August, he’ll star alongside Greta Lee in Netflix sci-fi thriller The Last House.
The Ocean’s prequel will hit theaters on June 25th 2027.
