Suddenly, things are very busy around the Ocean’s Eleven prequel directed by and starring Bradley Cooper. He’s joined in the cast by an all-star lineup that includes Margot Robbie, Wagner Moura, Monica Barbaro, all Oscar nominees. Now you can add Josh Gad to the mix. Maybe he’s not an Oscar contender, but he’s got a Tony Award nomination and a Grammy Award win under his belt.
Gad’s role is unclear at this time, but the 1962 setting leaves it open to him playing a younger version of a familiar character. My guess is that he could be playing Reuben, originally played by Elliott Gould in three Ocean’s movies. It’s just a guess, though, and it could be a new character or someone else entirely.
While plot details are officially under wraps, it’s expected that the film will leave the confines of Las Vegas and head to Europe for a 1960s caper with Cooper and Robbie as the thieving parents of Danny Ocean, the character played by George Clooney in three Ocean’s movies, and Debbie Ocean, originally played by Sandra Bullock in Ocean’s Eight. The backdrop is the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix, with Moura expected to be the villain.
Carrie Solomon’s screenplay has been given a rewrite by Cooper and Charles Randolo. Also on board is cinematographer Ben Davis, who has worked extensively with Martin McDonagh on his last four films. He replaced La La Land DP Linus Sandgren.
Gad has a ton on his plate, including The Angry Birds Movie 3, Spaceballs: The New One which he co-wrote, and Frozen 3. He also has a big screen adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ Oh, The Places You’ll Go! alongside Ariana Grande. [Variety]
