Of course Netflix wants to stay in business with Shawn Levy, one of the big brains behind its top franchise, Stranger Things. THR reports Levy’s next film is Somewhere Out There, an original sci-fi based on a spec script by Max Taxe.
Netflix won a competitive bidding war for the project. The “emotional sci-fi” film centers on a grieving father who, after losing his wife, sends a desperate message into space, and something out there responds.
Several A-list names are said to be circling the film, no shock given his frequent collaborations with Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds. He just wrapped shooting on Star Wars: Starfighter with Ryan Gosling.
Levy’s credentials speak for themselves. The guy makes family-friendly blockbuster movies and rarely fails, stretching all the way back to when he directed Big Fat Liar in 2002. He directed Deadpool & Wolverine to a massive $1.3B box office, the most ever for an R-rated movie.
As for Taxe, he wrote the 2022 HBO Max sci-fi rom-com Moonshot with Lana Condor and Cole Sprouse.
