Drew Hancock impressed with the AI thriller Companion last year, although its clever premise, which isn’t that far removed from Obsession, did nothing to get audiences into the theaters. Fortunately, Hancock hasn’t been hampered by this, and moves to Amazon MGM Studios for his next film, Seasons, which boasts a lot of talent in front of and behind the camera.
Deadline confirms an earlier report by Jeff Sneider that Seasons will star Lily James as one half of a couple who purchase their dream ranch, “only to discover the land is alive with ancient spirits, and survival means submitting to increasingly disturbing rituals with each turn of the season.”
James Wan’s Atomic Monster and Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment will produce the film, just as they did Kane Parson’s smash hit horror, Backrooms. The film is based on a viral short by Matt Query and Harrison Query that was turned into a novel, which Hancock will adapt.
Coming up for James is the reboot of Sylvester Stallone survival thriller, Cliffhanger. She will also join Chris Hemsworth in the submarine flick, Subversion. This September, James will join WWE champion Liv Morgan in Takashi Miike’s Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo.
