Netflix is about to do something cool to commemorate the 51st anniversary of the verdict in the court case against the Chicago 7. Starting today, Aaron Sorkin’s acclaimed drama The Trial of the Chicago 7 will be free to watch for 48 hours on their Youtube channel.
The film centers on how seven men from different backgrounds were put on trial for protesting at the 1968 Democratic National Convention, a protest that escalated into violence.
Sorking wrote and directed the film, while the incredible ensemble includes Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Sacha Baron Cohen, Daniel Flaherty, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Keaton, Frank Langella, John Carroll Lynch, Eddie Redmayne, Noah Robbins, Mark Rylance, Alex Sharp, and Jeremy Strong.
I loved The Trial of the Chicago 7, with the film ranking in my Best of the Year list. Although, if I’m honest, Sorkin’s direction isn’t what makes it great, but the tremendous cast and his fast-paced screenplay.
I also love this as a move by Netflix to get the film some much-needed awards season buzz. That’s what this is probably really about.
