‘A Christmas Story’ Sequel Coming To HBO Max With Peter Billingsley Back As Ralphie

There are only a few Christmas movies that warrant airing for 24hours straight on holiday eve. A Christmas Story is one of them. The timeless 1983 comedy about a boy named Ralphie and his epic quest to get a Red Ryder BB Gun for Christmas is a film every family has seen and can quote easily. And now, all of these years later, it’s getting a sequel. Well, another one.

THR reports WarnerMedia and Legendary are teaming up for A Christmas Story Christmas, a sequel to the classic film. And if you thought that title sounds sorta goofy and modern and unlike what a sequel of that era would be, you’re probably right. The film will be directed by Clay Kaytis (The Christmas Chronicles) with a script by Nick Schenk, known for writing Gran Torino and The Mule. Perhaps he can get Clint Eastwood to play a senior citizen Ralphie?

The story will follow an adult Ralphie, played by the original actor Peter Billingsley, as he tries to give his family a special Christmas in 1970. Billingsley has actually been around quite a bit as a filmmaker, directing Vince Vaughn in Couples Retreat and Term Life.

There have been a couple of sequels to A Christmas Story already. The most well-known is 1994’s It Runs in the Family starring Kieran Culkin. It would eventually be retitled My Summer Story. In 2012, A Christmas Story 2 starred Braeden Lemasters.

Those films will be ignored and this new sequel will debut on HBO Max.
