‘Body Brokers’ Trailer: Frank Grillo, Michael K. Williams, Melissa Leo & More Get Swept Up In A Drug Rehab Scam

Filmmaker John Swab’s crime drama Body Brokers comes from a very personal place. A former addict himself, Swab’s film explores the shady side of the rehabiliation business, because there’s a lot of money in scamming those in need of help.

Jack Kilmer, Alice Englers, Michael K. Williams, Frank Grillo, Jessica Rothe, and Melissa Leo make for an amazing cast in Body Brokers. The film centers on Ohio junkies Utah and Opal, who get swept up in a Los Angeles multimillion dollar fraud operation involving rehab clinics. They soon learn that drug treatment is just a cover for a predatory business that enlists addicts to recruit other addicts.

This looks off-the-wall and like an offbeat exploration of a serious topic or industry, sorta in the vein of Adam McKay.  There are a number of movies about the opioid epidemic right now, such as Hillbilly Elegy, Crisis, and Cherry, but this is the one that has my attention.

Body Brokers hits theaters and VOD on February 19th.
