The previous Planet of the Apes trilogy centered on the evolution of Caesar, who began as an ordinary ape and rose to lead his tribe to power against humanity. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is a standalone sequel, set 300 years after Caesar’s reign and when his teachings have been corrupted.
Less than two weeks before the film hits theaters, 20th Century Studios has dropped a final trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the second one this month. This is the best one yet, I think, with tons of action and a better look at Kevin Durand (who is also in Abigail right now) as the vicious ape leader Proximus Caesar, who is in search of ancient human technology while humans have regressed to a feral state. Meanwhile, a young chimpanzee named Noa sets out on a journey alongside a human woman that could determine the fate of all.
Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Peter Macon, William H. Macy, and Dichen Lachman lead the cast. I keep hoping that somehow that James Franco will return as a cyborg version of his character from Rise of the Planet of the Apes, but that’s probably not going to happen. Definitely not happening.
Here’s the synopsis: Set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign. Apes are the dominant species living harmoniously with one another, and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape will undertake a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes hits theaters on May 10th via Warner Bros.
