‘Humane’ Trailer: Caitlin Cronenberg’s Dystopian Satire Hits Theaters Next Month, Shudder In July

It should surprise nobody that the children of David Cronenberg are following in dad’s footsteps. Brandon Cronenberg has long established his cred with horror films such as Antiviral and Infinity Pool, along with the brilliant mature spy thriller Possessor. And now his sister, Caitlin Cronenberg, gets to show what she can do with the dark satire, Humane, which we learned about in 2022 and after the first image debuted earlier this month, an official trailer is here.

Shot in Hamilton, Ontario, Humane “stars Jay Baruchel (Blackberry), Emily Hampshire (Schitt’s Creek) and Peter Gallagher (Grace and Frankie) in a dystopian satire taking place over a single day, mere months after a global ecological collapse has forced world leaders to take extreme measures to reduce the earth’s population. In a wealthy enclave, a recently retired newsman has invited his grown children to dinner to announce his intentions to enlist in the nation’s new euthanasia program. But when the father’s plan goes horribly awry, tensions flare and chaos erupts among his children.”

Cronenberg directed the film from a script by Victory Man Productions’ Michael Sparaga.

IFC Films will release Humane into theaters on April 26th, with a Shudder release to follow on July 26th.
