If it were up to me, Zoe Lister-Jones would already be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, engaged in a multiversal battle with Kang the Conqueror or something. But she’s not. However, the next best thing might be her new Roku series, Slip, which finds her as a restless married woman traveling parallel universes where she enters new romantic relationships.
Here’s the official synopsis: Mae is restless in a life and marriage that works. There is love between her and her husband but little romance. When Mae “slips” and has a one-night stand with Eric, a handsome man she meets at a bar, she wakes up the next morning in a panic, only to realize she’s entered a parallel universe in which she and Eric are married. This is the start of her surreal journey as she slips into other realities and relationships, trying to find a way back to her husband, and, ultimately, herself.
The series was created and written by Lister-Jones, who also takes the lead role. She’s joined in the cast by Tymika Tafari, Whitmer Thomas, Amar Chadha-Patel, and Emily Hampshire, with Dakota Johnson aboard as a producer.
Lister-Jones is talented on multiple levels, but she’s really stepped up of late with her work behind the camera. As a writer/director, Lister-Jones led one of my favorite recent comedies, Band Aid, along with The Craft: Legacy, and How It Ends which I interviewed her for here.
Slip will premiere at SXSW, then hit The Roku Channel on April 21st.
