It’s no secret that Daniel Kaluuya won’t be back as the traitorous W’Kabi in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, but that’s okay. From one Marvel movie to the next. Only this time, Kaluuya will join Sony’s sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in the unexpected voice role of Spider-Punk.
Variety confirms that Kaluuya will voice Spider-Punk in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which finds Miles Morales and Gwen “Spider-Gwen” Stacy encountering Spider-folks from across the multiverse. And one of those will be Spider-Punk, aka Hobie Brown, who was the original Prowler. A relatively new character, Spider-Punk does indeed sport a spiky mohawk and rock a guitar.
Kaluuya joins an insanely stacked voice cast that includes Oscar Isaac, Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Greta Lee, Issa Rae, Rachel Dratch, Joma Taccone, Shea Whigham, and Jason Schwartzman. Behind the camera are Kemp Powers, Joaquim Dos Santos, and Justin K. Thompson, with Phil Lord and Chris Miller once again on the story.
Originally meant to be a single movie, the epic story necessitated it being split into two separate movies. Spider-Man: Across the Universe opens June 2nd 2023, followed by Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse on March 29th 2024.
