‘Wonder Twins’ Leads Activated As KJ Apa And Isabel May Join The HBO Max Film

HBO Max has activated KJ Apa and Isabel May to play the Wonder Twins, Zan and Jayna, in an upcoming DC Comics film. The news was revealed by Deadline, but there are is no further information on what this take on the superhero siblings will be.

Apa is best known for playing another comic book character, Archie Andrews, in The CW’s Riverdale series. May recently had a role in the Yellowstone prequel series, 1883.

The Wonder Twins are known for their sibling superpowers, which require physical contact for them to shapeshift. Zan transforms into water, which in the cartoon would see him carried around in a bucket (seriously), while Jayna can change into animals. Why she could turn into an animal when they have a pet monkey, Gleek, is still a mystery. The duo were first introduced in Saturday morning cartoon The All-New Super Friends Hour to cater to a much-younger audience. They would be brought into DC Comics canon years later, and have appeared on multiple programs.

The Wonder Twins live-action film will be written and directed by Adam Sztykiel, a co-writer on Black Adam and Rampage. Shooting will begin this summer in Atlanta.
