Kumail Nanjiani is taking the 80s by storm in Hulu’s upcoming true crime miniseries. The much anticipated Welcome to Chippendales got a teaser released yesterday, depicting the murderous and scandalous origins of the Chippendales Dance Troop.
“A world of luxury, right at your fingertips,” we hear Nanjiani say as the top of the teaser trailer. He will play Somen ‘Steve’ Banerjee, a failed but determined entrepreneur who strikes gold on founding the Chippendales concept.
Joining him are The White Lotus’ Murray Bartlett as club choreographer Nick De Noia, American Crime Story: Impeachment’s Annaleigh Ashford, Gaslit’s Dan Stevens as Paul Snider, and Yellowjackets’ Juliette Lewis. The show will not only look at the crime that took Banerjee down but the murder of Playboy model Dorothy Stratten.
The creative forces behind Pam & Tommy and Girls are producers on the project. This is not the first time Banerjee’s story had been told. The Dropout’s Naveen Andrews played him in the 2002 TV movie The Chippendales Murder. A newer iteration of the project has been in the work for years with Dev Patel, Seth Rogan, Ben Stiller, and Elle Fanning all attached at some point.
Welcome to Chippendales will hit Hulu November 22.
