Over the weekend at Comic-Con, Onslaught director Adam Wingard teased that his upcoming “gonzo action-horror” exists in the same universe as his 2014 hit thriller, The Guest…
“It is a spiritual sequel,” he said. “That said, it lives in the same universe.”
The most obvious connection, as revealed by Wingard, is that both films take place in the same town. They also share the same screenwriter, Simon Barrett.
Otherwise, the films couldn’t look more different, even with Dan Stevens in both. In this one, he plays one of three genetically engineered super-soldiers, named Crybaby, Cockroach and The Butcher, unleashed on a trailer park. Adria Arjona plays a former Army sniper turned single mom who must “unleash Hell” to protect her daughter.
The more I see of Onslaught, the happier I am that Wingard took a powder from directing MonsterVerse movies for a while. This looks like an absolute blast of pure, chaotic fun.
Also starring Rebecca Hall, Drew Starkey, Eric Wareheim, Reginald VelJohnson, Michael Biehn, and UFC fighter Alex Pereira, Onslaught hits theaters on September 4th from A24!
