Bye-Bye DC FanDome: Warner Bros. Discovery Cancels Online Event For 2022

So long, DC FanDome! We hardly knew ye! With the new regime at Warner Bros. Discovery continuing to put their stamp on the studio and DC Films in particular, one major decision they’ve made is to scrap the virtual online event for 2022. Created a couple of years ago due to the pandemic and the lack of in-person conventions, FanDome was basically a free, online version of the Warner Bros. DCEU presentation at San Diego Comic-Con.

Here is the statement WB shared with Deadline on the decision…

With the return of in-person events, Warner Bros. Discovery is excited to be able to engage with our fans live at numerous comic-cons around the world and will not be scheduling DC FanDome for 2022.”

You know what? I’m good with this. I loved the FanDome events the last two years, and thought they did a much better job handling the pandemic than Comic-Con did with their terrible @Home shows.

Back in July, Warner Bros. was on hand at Comic-Con to present Black Adam and Shazam: Fury of the Gods. While it was a stripped-down presentation compared to other years, it was still great to have them back.

I had someone say that I’m all for this move because I attend Comic-Con every year and can see the new reveals first-hand. But the thing I like about WB’s statement is that they’ll be going to “numerous comic-cons around the world”, giving plenty of others the same opportunity. One thing I like about WB when it comes to their DCEU brand is they tend to release footage fairly quickly after they debut.
