Dan Lin Won’t Lead DC Films For Warner Bros. Discovery, After All

Turns out that Dan Lin won’t be the solution to Warner Bros. Discovery’s problems. Last month it was reported that Lin, a former top producer at WBD who once led the Lego Movie franchise, was the studio’s pick to lead DC Films into the future. But a new report says that won’t be happening and the search continues.

The news first dropped on CNBC.com and then was picked up by others. It’s unclear whether Lin turned down the job or if it was WBD’s decision. Ultimately, it doesn’t really matter. WBD are searching for someone to turn their DC movies branch into something similar to what Marvel Studios has built under the leadership of Kevin Feige. Since they can’t just hire away Feige, they need to find someone else to do the job.

Part of the problem with hiring Lin is that he already has a production company, Rideback, which has a deal with Universal. Lin’s company would have to join with WBD and that’s a problem too big to overcome, it seems. Whoever is next on the list probably won’t have such hang-ups.
