Chances are you’re never going to see Idris Elba as James Bond. I know, it sucks, but best to live in reality. That said, he can still make one Hell of a spy in a different movie with the potential to be a franchise. Enter Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of the Dark Horse comic, Bang!
Deadline reports on a new deal inked between Netflix and Dark Horse Entertainment to adapt movies and TV together. The first out of the gate is Bang!, from Bullet Train and Atomic Blonde director David Leitch.
Based on the comic book by Matt Kindt and Wilfredo Torres, the film will star Elba as the world’s greatest superspy who is on a mission to stop a cult leader whose novels are brainwashing readers and could lead to the apocalypse.
Kindt and Zak Olkewicz will write the script, the latter reuniting with Leitch after their work on Bullet Train.
Also in the works is a series adaptation of Mind MGMT, from Emmy-nominated Stranger Things writer/producer Curtis Gwinn. Based on another popular series by Kindt, it follows Meru, a young true crime writer whose investigation into a mysterious airline flight leads her to the top-secret Mind Management program, unlocking a world of super spies, espionage, and psychic abilities. The agency’s greatest success, Henry Lyme, has gone rogue and Meru must find him.
Netflix is always in need of more content, and striking this deal with Dark Horse could be just what they need for the long haul.
