Months ago we reported on a story where Aladdin actor Mena Massoud was rumored to have been cast in the Star Wars Disney Plus show Ahsoka as Ezra Bridger. The character was last seen in Star Wars Rebels where he disappeared alongside Grand Admiral Thrawn.
Well, that rumor resurfaced this weekend by LRM Online, this time adding the supposed actor playing Thrawn. They say Massoud is set to play Ezra Bridger on the Ahsoka series. As for the role of Thrawn, Star Wars Rebels fans should be happy with this casting rumor as the actor who voiced him on the show will play him in the live-action continuation. That’s right, Lars Mikkelsen is reportedly playing Ahsoka’s adversary in the new show just like he did on the old one.
Mikkelsen (who happens to be Mads Mikkelsen’s brother) is known to American audiences for his appearances in The Killing, House of Cards, and of course, Star Wars Rebels. He also played one of Benedict Cumberbatch’s greatest adversaries on Sherlock.
The last we saw of Bridger and Thrawn it was in the series finale of Star Wars Rebels, as both were being pulled into hyperspace. Ex-Jedi Ahsoka Tano then teamed up with Sabine Wren to find their lost friend. The new Ahsoka series on Disney+ will find her on the hunt for Thrawn, and picks up on her recent appearances in The Mandalorian‘s second season.
Considering the source, this has to still be considered a rumor. If true, Lucasfilm and Disney will definitely announce it.
