When James Gunn took over as the head of DC Studios, most of the actors from Zack Snyder’s DCEU were left behind. But one who Gunn promised would remain was one of the last to join, and that was Blue Beetle star Xolo Maridueña. Now it’s been confirmed by multiple outlets that Maridueña will return as Jaime Reyes in Gunn’s Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow!
Maridueña first played Reyes in 2023’s Blue Beetle, the lowest-grossing movie of the DCEU era with just $130M. That said, it received solid reviews, and Maridueña was praised for his performance as the upstart superhero.
This suggests that Man of Tomorrow is going to be more of a team-based movie, as Superman and Lex Luthor team up to take on the alien threat of Brainiac.
He joins a cast led by David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, along with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Lars Eidinger as Brainiac, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathon Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Adria Arjona as Maxima and Aaron Pierre reprising his Lanterns role as Green Lantern John Stewart. Matthew Lillard recently signed on for an unspecified role, and Milly Alcock will return as Supergirl.
Man of Tomorrow opens in theaters July 9th 2027. [Variety]
