‘Ocean’s Eleven’ Prequel Lands ‘Twisters’ Director Lee Isaac Chung

It’s been a few years since we’ve heard anything big about the Ocean’s Eleven prequel that may or may not reunite Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. Delays have slowed down production, and now there’s been a huge change at the top. Jay Roach, who was initially set to direct, is out. And in his place is Minari and Twisters director Lee Isaac Chung.

The news comes from Deadline, which reports that Chung is in talks to direct the Ocean’s prequel film. Chung is a two-time Academy Award nominee for Minari, but seems to have transitioned into making bigger studio pictures now. Nothing wrong with that.

It’s unclear if Robbie and Gosling are involved at this point. They aren’t mentioned in the report at all. Shooting was supposed to have begun in 2023. Two years later and they might find their schedules no longer fit this project.

Carrie Solomon wrote the screenplay. While the plot is under wraps, rumors are that it follows the parents of Danny and Debbie Ocean (the characters played by George Clooney and Sandra Bullock) as they teach their kids the art of the steal at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.
