James Gunn Teases Superman “Sequel Writing” That Isn’t ‘Superman 2’

With Superman proving that it’s got super-powered legs at the box office, surpassing $500M worldwide, James Gunn is looking towards the future. In an exchange captured on Threads, Gunn confirmed that he is jumping into the Peacemaker season two press tour next, followed by “sequel writing.”

Sequel writing? That confused fans, because Gunn had previously denied working on a direct sequel, but also said he was developing another film that Superman was a major part of. So which is it?

Gunn clarified when asked by a fan, “This is the same movie. Superman has a major role. It’s not Superman 2.”

Previously when interviewed by EW, Gunn said “What I’m working on is in some way…I mean, yes, yes, yes, yes. But is it a straight-up Superman sequel? I would not say necessarily.

Ugh. This sounds like a Batman v Superman situation. Zack Snyder seriously misstepped when he skipped doing a Man of Steel sequel in favor of a teamup with the Dark Knight. The film, while modestly successful, derailed the DCEU in a major way. Let’s hope that isn’t what he’s doing.
