Box Office: ‘The Fantastic Four’ Got Clobbered But Stayed #1 For A Second Weekend

  1. The Fantastic Four: First Steps– $40M/$198.4M

The second of Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps got clobbered, dropping 66% and earning $40M. That was enough to top the weekend against a handful of newcomers, but it’s a heavy blow to a film that was needed to have long legs to succeed. Worldwide it has $365M, far below Superman‘s $406M after two weeks.

2. The Bad Guys 2– $22.2M

Dreamworks and Universal’s animated sequel The Bad Guys 2 stole away with $22M in its opening weekend. That’s just shy of the $23.9M debut of its predecessor in 2022. Both films have been praised by critics to roughly the same degree. This one sits at 86% on RT from critics, and 93% from audiences. The Bad Guys closed out its run with $250M, while this one sits at $44M globally and may struggle to hit that mark.

3. The Naked Gun (review)- $17M

Liam Neeson has “taken” Paramount’s legacy reboot The Naked Gun to a $17M opening weekend. That’s a solid number overall, and makes it the highest-grossing comedy debut of the year behind One of Them Days’ $11M. Like the earlier films in this decades-old franchise, it’s one that rewards multiple viewings so we could see people return for more, especially with the RT scores high at 90% from critics and 77% from audiences.

4. Superman– $13.9M/$316.2M

5. Jurassic World: Rebirth– $8.7M/$317.6M

6. Together (review)- $6.8M/$10.8M

NEON bought the acclaimed body horror Together at Sundance for $17M. They were rewarded with a $10.8M opening weekend for the film starring Alison Brie and Dave Franco as a long-term couple who encounter mysterious force that draws them together in nightmarish fashion.

7. F1: The Movie– $4.1M/$173.2M

8. I Know What You Did Last Summer– $2.6M/$29.2M

9. Smurfs– $1.7M/$28.5M

10. How to Train Your Dragon– $1.3M/$260.4M
