‘Highest 2 Lowest’ Trailer: Denzel Washington Faces A Moral Crisis In Spike Lee’s Crime Thriller

When Highest 2 Lowest finally arrives next month, it will be the fifth collaboration between Spike Lee and Denzel Washington. They have been essential to one another’s careers, and after too much time apart, the duo is back for an adaptation of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 crime classic, High and Low.

After the first teaser dropped in May, A24 has released the full trailer for Highest 2 Lowest. The story has been updated as it no longer centers on the shoe business. Instead, Denzel plays a music mogul who gets jammed up in a ransom plot that will test all of his claims about integrity.

Also in the cast are Oscar nominee Jeffrey Wright, Ilfenesh Hadera, A$AP Rocky, Dean Winters, Ice Spice, Michael Potts, and Wendell Pierce. I’m hearing really good things about A$AP Rocky’s performance. It might be a breakout role for him.

The script was penned by Alan Fox, based on Evan Hunter’s book, King’s Ransom.

SYNOPSIS: When a titan music mogul (Denzel Washington), widely known as having the “best ears in the business”, is targeted with a ransom plot, he is jammed up in a life-or-death moral dilemma. Brothers Denzel Washington and Spike Lee reunite for the 5th in their long working relationship for a reinterpretation of the great filmmaker Akira Kurosawa’s crime thriller High and Low, now played out on the mean streets of modern-day New York City.

Highest 2 Lowest hits theaters August 15th, followed by Apple TV+ streaming on September 5th.
