Box Office: ‘Lilo & Stitch’, ‘Mission: Impossible’ Hold Strong Against New Releases

  1. Lilo & Stitch– $63M/$280.1M

In a week of some stiff competition from new releases, the top two films from last week remained at the top. Disney’s Lilo & Stitch fell 57% and earned another $63M for $280M domestically, making it the 2nd-best stateside earner this year behind A Minecraft Movie‘s $422M. Worldwide, the film has $610M, helping to make Disney the top studio performer of 2025.

2. Mission: Impossible-The Final Reckoning– $27.3M/$122.6M

It was another solid week for Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible-The Final Reckoning, billed as the final chapter in that epic 30-year franchise. Falling 57% from last week, it earned $27.3M for $122M after two weeks. As has been the standard for these movies, overseas numbers were even better with an additional $231M for a worldwide haul of $353M.

3. Karate Kid: Legends (review)- $21M

Sony’s attempted revival of the Karate Kid franchise got KO’d. Karate Kid: Legends, an attempt to connect the original Ralph Macchio movies with the 2010 reboot led by Jackie Chan, mustered only $21M domestically. It’s almost like a successful TV series doesn’t translate to big screen success? Crazy. Anyway, that’s way off from what the previous movie did 15 years ago, which launched with $55M. Worldwide, things are a bit brighter with $47M overall.

4. Final Destination Bloodlines– $10.8M/$111.7M

5. Bring Her Back (review)- $7M

Danny & Michael Phillippou’s sophomore effort, Bring Her Back, opened with just $7M, failing to match up to its predecessor, 2022’s breakthrough horror Talk to Me‘s $10M. It wasn’t without a muscular effort by A24 which gave it a release in over 2400 theaters. Critics were favorable, as well, giving it a 90% score on RT while audiences gave it 79%.

6. Sinners– $5.2M/$267M

Ryan Coogler’s vampire smash Sinners has crossed the $350M worldwide total, fueling speculation of a potential sequel.

7. Thunderbolts*– $4.8M/$181.8M

8. Friendship– $2.5M/$12.3M

9. The Last Rodeo– $2.1M/$10.7M

10.j-hope Tour ‘Hope on the Stage’ in Japan: Live Viewing– $939K

Also…Wes Anderson’s latest, The Phoenician Scheme, had the best per site average of the week. Focus Features gave it a platform release in six locations for $570K or $95K per theater. The film expands this week to 1500 theaters.

John Maclean’s samurai revenge tale Tornado (review) opened to just $130K in over 400 locations. A disappointing effort for the film led by Japanese singer/actress Kōki, Tim Roth, and Jack Lowden.
