Colin Trevorrow Teaming With Ryan Reynolds For Area 51 Conspiracy Thriller

Colin Trevorrow has come a long way since his breakout feature, the low-fi time travel film Safety Not Guaranteed, which I’m struggling to believe was way back in 2012 (!!!) at Sundance.  God, I’m old. Since then he’s been involved with Star Wars, and directed two of the last three Jurassic World movies. Now he’s set to team up with Ryan Reynolds on a conspiracy thriller surrounding the mysterious Area 51.

Deadline reports Trevorrow will direct an untitled conspiracy thriller produced by Ryan Reynolds’ Maximum Effort label and set up at Paramount Pictures. Trevorrow will also produce the film, set in the late ’80s and centering on the local Las Vegas TV news journalist who first broke the story of Area 51’s existence. Thomas and William Wheeler wrote the script. No word on a start date.

Trevorrow has become a big-time filmmaker after the success of Jurassic World. He directed two movies in that trilogy and wrote a third, earning more than $3B globally at the box office. With Reynolds backing this new project there’s always the potential that it grows into a box office smash, as well. Some of that will depend on casting, and if maybe Reynolds gets in front of the camera, too.
