‘Narnia’: Emma Mackey Lands White Witch Role In Greta Gerwig’s Netflix Film

From one fantasy world to the next. Barbie director Greta Gerwig is casting up her Narnia film for Netflix. So far there’s been nothing official,  but that seems to have changed now with THR reporting Sex Education star Emma Mackey is coming aboard.

According to the report, Mackey will play the villainous White Witch in Gerwig’s Narnia.  She appears to have claimed the role that early stories had pop star Charli XCX nabbing. Meryl Streep is potentially close to signing on as the voice of Aslan, while others rumored for roles include Daniel Craig and Saoirse Ronan. Who knows if any of them will actually sign on.

The role of Jadis, the White Witch was portrayed wonderfully by Tilda Swinton in Disney’s adaptation of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

As expected, the film will be an adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ The Magician’s Nephew, a prequel to the Narnia books and the sixth of seven published.

Here’s a synopsis of the book: On a daring quest to save a life, two friends are hurled into another world, where an evil sorceress seeks to enslave them. But then, the lion Aslan’s song weaves itself into the fabric of a new land, a land that will be known as Narnia. And in Narnia, all things are possible.

Mackey and Gerwig worked together previously on Barbie, in which Mackey played Physicist Barbie.
