‘Weapons’ First Look: Josh Brolin And Julia Garner In Zach Cregger’s ‘Barbarian’ Follow-Up

Without a doubt, one of the most anticipated movies of the year is Weapons, director Zach Cregger’s follow-up to Barbarian. Today, EW has dropped the first official images of stars Josh Brolin and Julia Garner in Cregger’s creepy horror film, plus one haunting shot of a lone child in the middle of the night.

Weapons is an ever-evolving story that kicks off with a terrifying event. At exactly 2:17am on a seemingly normal Wednesday, 17 schoolkids in the fictional town of Maybrook, Pennsylvania, get up from their beds and flee into the night, never to be seen again. The story then follows the various plots springing from the traumatic disappearances.

It’s also possible that Weapons and Barbarian take place in the same universe and share some kind of connection.

Cregger told EW… “This isn’t just about a central mystery. The story transforms. It’s not abandoning the mystery, but what follows is even wilder.” He promises a film that is not only more creatively daring than Barbarian, but also larger in scope, with more elaborate set pieces and a uniquely twisted storyline.

He talked about Weapons in comparison to Barbarian “It is more ambitious in almost every way. I don’t just mean in terms of the budget, but I just mean creatively. The story is weirder and it’s twistier and it’s bigger. I have way more actors to fit into this thing. The set pieces are definitely bigger. It’s just a bigger, weirder movie than Barbarian is.”

Also in the cast are Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Benedict Wong, Amy Madigan, June Diane Raphael, and Cary Christopher.

Weapons hits theaters on August 8th, so don’t be surprised if we get a trailer very soon.
