‘Wolf Man’ Trailer: Christopher Abbott And Julia Garner Star In A Modern Werewolf Horror From ‘The Invisible Man’ Director

Four years ago Leigh Whannell helped revive Universal’s classic movie monsters with The Invisible Man, a contemporary take on the character that earned critical praise and $144M at the box office. While there’s been talk of a sequel (there’s a connection to his 2018 film Upgrade, too), and a spinoff led by Elizabeth Banks, Whannell will first take a crack at another monster legend with Wolf Man. A new teaser gives us our best look yet at Whannell and Blumhouse’s modern werewolf story.

Starring Christopher Abbott, Julia Garner, Matilda Firth, and Sam Jaeger, Wolf Man follows a family man who takes his wife and daughter to his remote childhood home, only to be attacked by a mysterious creature when they arrive. With the feral beast prowling around outside, things take a turn for the worse inside the home as the husband begins to transform into something that could be even more dangerous.

Abbott’s character is named Lawrence Talbot, the same name as the character from the classic 1941 film The Wolf Man, played memorably by Lon Chaney Jr. Benicio Del Toro played Talbot in the 2010 remake you would be forgiven for forgetting.

SYNOPSIS: What if someone you loved became something else?

From Blumhouse and visionary writer-director Leigh Whannell, the creators of the chilling modern monster tale The Invisible Man, comes a terrifying new lupine nightmare: Wolf Man. Golden Globe nominee Christopher Abbott (Poor Things, It Comes at Night) stars as Blake, a San Francisco husband and father, who inherits his remote childhood home in rural Oregon after his own father vanishes and is presumed dead. With his marriage to his high-powered wife, Charlotte (Emmy winner Julia Garner; Ozark, Inventing Anna), fraying, Blake persuades Charlotte to take a break from the city and visit the property with their young daughter, Ginger (Matlida Firth; Hullraisers, Coma). But as the family approaches the farmhouse in the dead of night, they’re attacked by an unseen animal and, in a desperate escape, barricade themselves inside the home as the creature prowls the perimeter. As the night stretches on, however, Blake begins to behave strangely, transforming into something unrecognizable, and Charlotte will be forced to decide whether the terror within their house is more lethal than the danger without.

Wolf Man hits theaters on January 17th 2025.
