Margot Robbie’s ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ Spinoff Is Dead In The Water

While Johnny Depp seems to be attempting some kind of comeback lately, there hasn’t been much discussion of his biggest franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean. Last we’d heard, he was done suiting up as Jack Sparrow, and a pair of scripts were being written for a new movie that would star Margot Robbie. So whatever happened to that? Well, according to Robbie herself, that project is sunk in Davey Jones’ Locker.

Speaking with Vanity Fair, Robbie talked about her upcoming projects such as Barbie, Damien Chazelle’s Babylon, and an Ocean’s Eleven prequel. But that Pirates of the Caribbean flick? Not so much…

“We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led — not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story — which we thought would’ve been really cool, but I guess they don’t want to do it,” Robbie explained.

Oh well. So much for that, and one presumes Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer are looking for another way to keep that billion-dollar franchise alive.

More notable for me personally is that Robbie didn’t include a Birds of Prey sequel in her list of upcoming projects. That stings, Margot.
