Owen Teague To Play Lead Primate In Next ‘Planet Of The Apes’ Film

Since Matt Reeves concluded the most recent ‘Apes’ trilogy with 2017’s awesome War for the Planet of the Apes, the question has been who could possibly hope to fill the significant shoes of Reeves and brilliant star Andy Serkis. We got the answer to one when The Maze Runner‘s Wes Ball was hired to direct the next chapter. And now today we’ve learned from Deadline that it’ll be Owen Teague set for the lead role.

Teague will play the main primate role in the next Planet of the Apes film. Very little is known about the film but it will build on the previous stories directed by Reeves and his predecessor, Rupert Wyatt. In short, it’s a sequel, folks.

While not a household name, Teague has been keeping busy with a slew of projects. He’s probably best known for his work on Stephen King adaptations, the television series The Stand, and both It movies. However, I would like to point you to his understated performance in the recent film, Montana Story, alongside Haley Lu Richardson. Really good stuff.

No release date has been set just yet, but Ball could begin shooting by the end of this year.
