First Look: Rachel Zegler And Tom Blyth Get Close In ‘Hunger Games’ Prequel ‘The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes’

The 10th Hunger Games has officially begun! May the odds be ever in your favor!

Lionsgate has dropped the first image from prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, featuring stars Tom Blyth as a young Coriolanus Snow and Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray Baird. The two are sharing a quiet, even romantic moment, but it’s unclear if this is before the Games take place, or at some point during. Snow, who becomes the future maniacal leader of Panem (played by Donald Sutherland in prior The Hunger Games movies), is chosen to mentor Lucy Gray, the popular tribute from the impoverished District 12, just like a certain Katniss Everdeen many decades later.

The film is directed by franchise veteran, Francis Lawrence, who has previously helmed Catching Fire, and the two-part Mockingjay finale. Also in the cast are Hunter Schafer as Coriolanus’ cousin, Tigris Snow; Peter Dinklage as Hunger Games co-creator  Casca Highbottom; Jason Schwartzman as host Lucky Flickerman, and the newly-cast Viola Davis as Gamemaker Dr. Volumnia Gaul.

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes opens on November 17th 2023.
