Henry Cavill Will Get Immortal In ‘Highlander’ Reboot From Chad Stahelski

While questions still swirl around Henry Cavill’s possible Superman return, the truth is he could probably move on and do anything he wanted. Certainly, another big franchise is in his future, and it may have already been found. Deadline reports Cavill is in talks to star in the upcoming Highlander reboot that Chad Stahelski (John Wick) is directing.

The report doesn’t add much except that Cavill would be taking one of the lead roles. The original 1986 Highlander film starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod and Sean Connery as Ramirez, centering on a race of warrior immortals destined to fight and kill each other because “there can be only one!” While a box office dud, the film became a cult classic and launched multiple sequels and a long-running TV series. You can understand why Lionsgate is keen on bringing it back.

A Highlander reboot has been in the works for a decade with various names including Ryan Reynolds, Justin Lin, Dave Bautista, and even Tom Cruise attached or sought for it.

Stahelski has a lot on his plate, including John Wick 4, so figuring out a start date is tough. Cavill is pretty busy, too, as star of Netflix’s hit The Witcher series. But if he were to wield the sword it would be hard to argue Cavill as a pretty badass MacLeod. He’s already got the sword-swinging experience! Just skip the Scottish accent, please.
