Scorsese’s ‘Killers Of The Flower Moon’ Casts Lily Gladstone Opposite Leonardo DiCaprio

It’s time to start paying attention to Lily Gladstone. If you don’t know her already, she was the emerging star from Kelly Reichardt’s film, Certain Women, and also had a small role in First Cow. She apparently caught the eye of Martin Scorsese, who has cast her opposite Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro in Killers of the Flower Moon.

Killers of the Flower Moon is based on David Grann’s novel, adapted by Eric Roth, and centers on the Osage Nation tribe in the 1920s as they discover oil on their land. Soon after, the Osage began being murdered one by one, and as the body count grew, Hoover’s newly-formed FBI stepped in to solve the case.

Gladstone, who was raised on the Blackfeet Reservation, will play Mollie Burkhart, an Osage Nation community member married to Ernest Burkhart (DiCaprio), who is nephew of a powerful local rancher.

Surprisingly, this is one expensive production Netflix wasn’t down to pay for, perhaps because of what they spent on Scorsese’s The Irishman. So Scorsese took Killers of the Flower Moon, and its reported $200M budget, over to Apple where it’ll be released either late this year or early next. [THR]
