The Thomas Crown Affair is one of my favorite movies of all-time. I’ve spent entire days watching both the original and the John McTiernan version from 1999. Michael B. Jordan is like me in that he prefers McTiernan’s take. Amazon/MGM Studios have revealed the anticipated first teaser for Jordan’s reimagining, which he both directs and stars in alongside Adria Arjona, Lily Gladstone, Kenneth Branagh, Danai Gurira, and Pilou Asbæk.
Written by Drew Pearce and Jason Hall, The Thomas Crown Affair stars Jordan as a billionaire businessman with a lust for life who gets his kicks by stealing works of art, until he falls for the insurance investigator hired to follow him.
The chemistry between Jordan and Arjona is going to make or break this movie, just as Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo’s lit the screen on fire. Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway were pretty hot in the 1968 film, as well.
My gut tells me something is missing from this trailer. Why doesn’t this look all that…fun? This is supposed to be a slick game of cat and mouse, but it looks way too serious.
The film marks Jordan’s sophomore effort behind the camera, following Creed III. His inexperience showed in the tone of that film, but I’m hopeful for improvement here.
SYNOPSIS: Academy Award® winner Michael B. Jordan directs, produces, and stars in a visually breathtaking, sensual, and unexpectedly moving heist thriller, where the most dangerous man in the room is the one nobody’s watching.
The Thomas Crown Affair hits theaters on March 5th 2027.
