Chloe Zhao’s Nomadland continued its successful journey through the awards season, this time as the Washington DC Area Film Critics Association, of which we are longstanding members, named it the best movie of the year. The film not only earned Best Picture, but won four more awards including Best Actress for star Frances McDormand, Best Director for Zhao, plus Best Cinematography and Best Adapted Screenplay.
The late Chadwick Boseman was honored with Best Actor his performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, defeating his Da 5 Bloods co-star Delroy Lindo. Leslie Odom Jr. took home Best Supporting Actor for his role as Sam Cooke in One Night in Miami, which also won Best Ensemble. Minari was well-represented, as well, with Alan Kim winning Best Youth Performance and Yuh-Jung Youn for Best Supporting Actress.
