Animated ‘Game Of Thrones’ Series Could Be Coming To HBO Max

More Game of Thrones, you say? That’ right, WarnerMedia isn’t going to let the world of George R.R. Martin go just because the show is off the air. We already know of the first spinoff series, House of the Dragon, and learned recently about early work on a Tales of Dunk & Egg prequel. And now there’s word of another spinoff project for HBO Max, one that will be animated in form.

THR reports that an animated Game of Thrones drama series is being talked about behind-the-scenes at WarnerMedia. This is extremely early on, and while writers are being met with about it they might decide not to greenlight it, just as they did the previous show that would’ve starred Naomi Watts.

Martin has blogged in the past about previous attempts to get him to agree to an animated series based on his books. Perhaps he was made an offer he couldn’t refuse?

It’s unclear when the show would take place, but likely it will be some time before the events of HBO’s Game of Thrones. There’s plenty of fertile storytelling ground there that should make fans very happy to see what a cartoon Westeros looks like.
