‘Game Of Thrones’ Movie On Aegon The Conqueror Taps ‘Andor’ Writer Beau Willimon

Remember when there was going to be a Star Wars movie from the Game of Thrones showrunners? That fell apart, but there were also rumors of a Game of Thrones feature film. And now today we know who will be writing it, and guess what, it’s Beau Willimon, writer of Andor, the most critically acclaimed Star Wars series yet.

First emerging on Page Six and backed up by THR, there’s a Game of Thrones movie happening at Warner Bros. with Willimon writing the script. The story will reportedly center on Aegon I Targaryen, the House of the Dragon member who conquered six of seven kingdoms and created the Iron Throne from the melted swords of his enemies.

The Targaryens are key to Game of Thrones lore, as seen by Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, the “Mother of Dragons”, in the original series. House of the Dragon is a prequel that charts the dominance of the Targaryen clan.

Willimon has received praise for his work beyond that of Andor. He was also showrunner on Netflix’s first legit hit series, political thriller House of Cards. He also wrote George Clooney’s political drama The Ides of March, and 2018’s Mary Queen of Scots. If it isn’t obvious, Willimon’s strengths are political and palace intrigue, making him perfect for a Game of Thrones film.

This is obviously still early on with no director or cast, but this is a start worth getting excited about.
