Netflix and Ryan Reynolds are staying in business together for the long haul. The 6 Underground star already has the star-studded flick Red Notice on the way, and now Reynolds has decided to do what he does best, comedy, in the upcoming film Upstate.
Deadline reports Reynolds will star in Upstate, a Netflix comedy he’ll co-write with John August. This is a reunion between the two, as they first teamed up on the 2007 psychological thriller, The Nines. Remember that? I do, and I’m not surprised you don’t.
Otherwise, August is a fantastic writer who has penned some great stuff such as Go, Big Fish, Corpse Bride, and the recent Aladdin remake. Yep, he and Tim Burton are buds. He’s also writer on the upcoming Grease prequel, Summer Lovin‘.
There aren’t any story details on Upstate yet, so it’s clear this is pretty early on. Reynolds and August will exec-produce, and it’s unclear if the latter will direct.
Add this to a busy slate of projects Reynolds has added only recently, including a Dragon’s Lair film, a Clue remake, a time travel film with Shawn Levy, a monster movie from Paul King, and an R-rated animated series with Samuel L. Jackson called Futha Mucka. That’s on top of completed stuff like the video game film Free Guy, and a sequel to The Hitman’s Bodyguard.
