It’s finally happening. Ryan Gosling has spent years teasing the idea of joining the MCU, and his name has been mentioned for numerous roles that went to others. Well, today at San Diego Comic-Con during Marvel’s Hall H panel, Gosling got his wish. Gosling will star as Ghost Rider in a new film directed by Shawn Levy that will hit theaters in 2028.
This continues the partnership between Gosling and Levy, who just finished working together on Star Wars: Starfighter.
You may recall that in 2022, Gosling first talked about wanting to play Ghost Rider. Marvel chief Kevin Feige quickly responded, saying “Hey man, if Ryan wants to be Ghost Rider…Gosling’s unbelievable. Ryan is amazing…I’d love to find a place for him in the MCU.”
The most famous portrayal of Ghost Rider was by Nicolas Cage in two movies in 2007, and again 2011’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Gabriel Luna played the Robbie Reyes version in the Agents of SHIELD series for a while, too. The character is making a pretty big statement in the upcoming Marvel Tokon video game that people are buzzing about, also.
I think this also opens up the door to the Midnight Sons movie that many have been speculating about. The supernatural team typically consists of Ghost Rider, Blade, Doctor Strange, Werewolf by Night, and other popular Marvel heroes.
