Remember Gareth Evans? If you’re a fan of The Raid and The Raid 2, which if you read this site you likely are, then you know the director has been missing in action since 2018’s Apostle. Sure, he helped co-create the crime series Gangs of London, but it’s been a long time coming for his next movie. Titled Havoc, the action flick starring Tom Hardy has been on the sidelines for a few years, but today we have our first official look at it.
Empire has revealed the first image from Havoc, featuring Hardy kicking ass through the criminal underworld to save a politician’s son. The film is directed by Evans from his own screenplay, and he promises the film will deliver want he knows his fans want…
“When it comes to a film called ‘HAVOC,’ with me and Tom Hardy, we deliver on the action front,” Evans said. “That’s the primary focus. But with Tom, what you get as well is an intensely muscular central performance, and really well-developed character. There’s a lot going on under the hood.”
Hardy has been busy starring in a trilogy of Venom movies, but this is the first time he’s taken on an action role such as this since Mad Max: Fury Road.
Filming initially wrapped in 2021, so why has it sat on the shelf for so long? Rumors persisted that the project was troubled, and has admitted to extensive reshoots that led to significant changes…
“It’s had a profound effect on the film. It allowed me to better streamline it, and make it what it was always intended to be, which is a blistering, fast-paced action-thriller with nods to the Hong Kong cinema that I grew up watching.”
Havoc doesn’t have a release date but look for it to arrive on Netflix in 2025.
