Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set to be one of the major films in James Gunn’s DCU. With House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock set to play Kara Zor-El earlier this year, casting has been quiet. But a new rumor suggests that one of today’s best actors, and my personal favorite actor right now, Matthias Schoenaerts, could be up for the villain role.
Take this with a grain of salt considering the source, but scooper MyTimetoShineHello says Rust & Bone and The Old Guard actor Matthias Schoenaerts is up for the villainous role of Krem. If true, this suggests the script by Ana Nogueira will stick very closely to the comic book series Tom King.
In King’s comics run, Krem of the Yellow Hills is a Kingsagent who murdered in cold blood the father of Ruthye Marye Knoll, a young alien girl who enlists Kara’s aid in exacting vengeance against him. The journey finds Kara coping with the destruction of her home planet Krypton by trying to help Ruthye shed her desire for revenge. Krem also shoots Krypto the Superdog with a poison arrow, so you know this guy is a real scumbag.
If Krem is involved in the movie, it means that core relationship between Kara and Ruthye must be included, too. That’s a good thing because the best thing to come out of that comic was what that relationship did to establish Kara as her own character, fully separate from Superman.
Look, Schoenaerts can do pretty much anything which is why I think he’s the best actor in the world. If Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow lands him, it’ll be one Hell of a coup. Schoenaerts last appeared in Amsterdam alongside another DC alum, Margot Robbie.
Filming is expected to begin in January with Craig Gillespie directing for release on June 26th, 2026
