Michelle Yeoh Joins ‘Blade Runner 2099’ Live-Action Series

Although she is a recent Best Actress Oscar winner for Everything Everywhere All At Once, Michelle Yeoh stays pretty busy in the realm of TV. With Star Trek Discovery, American Born Chinese, and The Brothers Sun in her recent past, Yeoh has landed another major small-screen role in Prime Video’s Blade Runner 2099, a continuation of the sci-fi franchise.

Deadline reports Yeoh has landed a mystery role in the Blade Runner 2099 live-action series. Details are being kept under wraps, but the title makes it obvious the show takes place fifty years after Blade Runner 2049. Jonathan van Tulleken (Shogun) will direct at least two episodes.

Ridley Scott directed the original film in 1982 which many regard as a sci-fi classic. Denis Villeneuve directed Blade Runner 2049 in 2017, preceded by a trio of short films, and followed by the animated series Blade Runner: Black Lotus in 2021. So this dystopian world of humans and replicants has been explored more than a lot of people know.

While there’s no set date, expect Prime Video to debut Blade Runner 2099 sometime next year.
