‘Weapons’: Pedro Pascal To Star In ‘Magnolia’-esque Horror Epic From ‘Barbarian’ Director

Who is this Pedro Pascal guy? What’s he ever done? Well, the answer to that right now is “pretty much every damn thing.” The Mandalorian himself is queued up for Ridley Scott’s Gladiator sequel, Ethan Coen’s Drive-Away Dolls, and let’s not forget a second season of HBO’s hit The Last of Us. And now he’s added yet another promising title into the mix, Weapons, a new film from Barbarian breakout Zach Cregger.

THR has the news on Pascal starring in Weapons, which is described as an “interrelated, multistory horror epic” in the same vein tonally as Paul Thomas Anderson’s terrific 1999 ensemble, Magnolia, a film that dealt with fate and chance.

New Line won an intense bidding war for the project, Cregger’s first since his twisted horror pic Barbarian earned $45M on a limited budget last year. The film also earned rave reviews from audiences, critics, and fellow filmmakers.

A fall shoot on Weapons is expected.

Also coming up for Pascal is the Cannes premiere of Pedro Almodóvar’s queer Western short, Strange Way of Life, in which he’s paired up with Ethan Hawke.
