There’s no such thing as a perfect Oscars telecast. A hundred years from now there will be complaints about the length or the order or the host, whatever. Last night’s show felt pretty good, though. I look at this from the perspective of someone who, for the last decade, has been hosting a major Oscars watch party event, and this year it didn’t feel like there were a lot of lulls. And, thankfully, nobody got slapped this time.
This was also just an emotionally satisfying show. The producers did a good job of building up the anticipation throughout and playing into well-established storylines. Because, let’s be honest, there weren’t a lot of major surprises last night. The people that fans mainly wanted to see win…well, they won. And there was a natural catharsis in seeing the people we hoped for get their moment in the sun. That led to some great, emotional acceptance speeches.
From Brendan Fraser’s awkward acceptance of Best Actor, to ALL of the gripping speeches from everyone in the Everything Everywhere All At Once camp, this was a night that really hit you in the feels. You can check out some of those speeches below, and relive those moments all over again.
