It’s taken a while, more than a year actually, but Guy Ritchie’s Operation Fortune is finally right around the corner. The spy film, led by Jason Statham, Aubrey Plaza, Bugzy Malone, Hugh Grant, Josh Hartnett, and Cary Elwes, was originally due in theaters in 2022 until distributor STX went under. But now thanks to Miramax and Lionsgate we’ll get to see if the wait was actually worth it. Clearly, they think so.
The premise is simple enough and yet kinda silly. Statham plays a superspy who must stop an arms-dealing billionaire from unleashing deadly technology on the world. To make this happen, the world’s greatest actor is recruited to infiltrate the billionaire’s inner circle.
At the very least this looks like a fun role for Hartnett, who has mostly stayed out of the limelight in recent years. Statham and Ritchie know one another so well at this point that they can probably do this stuff in their sleep. And Grant clearly had a good time working with Ritchie on 2019’s The Gentlemen. He seems to be having a moment.
